Gatsby Would Approve: The Country Club is Coming to Costa Mesa

By January 17, 2018 No Comments

For Newport Beach and Costa Mesa locals, 17th Street is one of the best ways to spend a Friday night. With so many options of different bars and restaurants, it’s almost impossible to find yourself with nothing to do. Not to mention, the scene on this strip is hip and happenin’. To add more fuel to the fire, The Country Club, opening Dec. 5 exclusively for those 21 years and older, is offering yet another cool spot to grab a drink with your friends.

Mario Marovic and Andrew Gabriel, restaurant and bar owners in Orange County, have done it again and opened up this new restaurant and drinking establishment. “We wanted to do something timeless and old school and we wanted to call it The Country Club. After we had the name for the business, it kind of took a life of its own in terms of the decor,” said Gabriel.

The same owners as Wild Goose Tavern, Dory Deli, Malarky’s Irish Pub and Stag Bar + Kitchen, found it important to keep with the original A-frame roofline. “Not only does it house decades of memories, having been a bar since the ‘50s, it is the most significant and redeeming quality of the old building. It’s also become a familiar part of the 17th street landscape over the years. It has character, and the vaulted interior beams, which had been covered all these years, are absolutely beautiful. That’s something we’re really excited to showcase as the building’s signature focal point,” said Marovic in a press release.
